Members of the Glasgow Thematic Society would like to congratulate George Henshilwood on his recent award from the Royal Philatelic Society of London (RPSL), the oldest philatelic society in the world. It was founded on 10th April 1869, and exists to promote, encourage and contribute to the advancement of the science and practice of philately. Fellows of the Royal Society are elected from members, based on service to the society and to philately. His peers at the Royal recently awarded George that well-deserved Fellowship. As a Fellow of the Royal Society, George is recognised across the UK as an esteemed philatelist, whose expertise, extensive study, and exhibitions have contributed to the general furtherance of philatelic knowledge and research. He can now be addressed as Mr George Henshilwood (FRPSL).
George is currently President of the Glasgow Caledonian Philatelic Society (GCPS) and Treasurer/ Act.President of the Association of Scottish Philatelic Societies (ASPS), and a member of the Glasgow Thematic Society.
Members of the Glasgow Thematic Society recently attended the Lanarkshire Stamp and Postcard Fair, which was held at the St. John's Church Halls in Hamilton. More than 20 philatelic dealers attended the event and visitors were able to browse to find philatelic materials and chat with the dealer stall-holders. Amongst the dealers were Thematic Society members Anthony Duda, and Caroline and Robert Watt. The stalls offered a wide range of stamps, miniature sheets, covers, and postcards, as well as postal history materials. The event was open between 10am and 4pm which allowed plenty of time to search for that elusive 'find'.
